Rutland County Bicentennial
The Cover celebrating Rutland County’s Bicentennial is graced with a caricature by Jeff Daninger of Nathaniel Chipman who served both as Chief Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court and United States Senator during the eighteen hundreds.
Two further caricatures, one of Joseph Bowker who served as a Rutland Statesman in the mid to later seventeen hundreds and Theophilus Herrington, who served as Chief Judge of Rutland County Court and Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court during the same time period are included to accompany the description of Rutland County’s earliest days.
Specifically discussed are Smith and Rann’s History of Rutland County, as well as a separate discussion of Tinmouth as a Shire Town, including an early map of that area. The issue is an informative compendium of numerous individuals involved in Rutland’s evolution.
